A Jihad for Love

Playing at Sunset 5

A Documentary by Indian Filmmaker "Parvez Sharma" about the lives of gay Muslim  men and women in Iran and 12 other Middle Eastern and African  countries, a Sundance Production and winner of Berlin and Toronto Festivals will open in LA on:

Playing at Laemmle Sunset 5 in West Hollywood this weekend only (Aug 1-4). Check theater for show times.

Iraq

A Jihad for Love is the world's first feature documentary to explore the complex global intersections between Islam and homosexuality. Parvez enters the many worlds of Islam by illuminating multiple stories as diverse as Islam itself. The film travels a wide geographic arc presenting us lives from India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa and France. Always filming in secret and as a Muslim, Parvez makes the film from within the faith, depicting Islam with the same respect that the film's characters show for it.

The filmmakers will participate in Q&A’s after the 7:30 and 10 o’clock screenings at the Sunset 5 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday August 1-4

Gays in Iraq Terrorized by Threads, Rape, Murder

Kamal was just 16 when gunmen snatched him off the streets of Baghdad, stuffed him in the trunk of a car and whisked him away to a house. But the real terror was about to begin.

Iraq

The men realized he was gay, Kamal said, when he took his shirt off and they saw that his chest was shaved.

"They told me to take off my clothes to rape me or they would kill me immediately. This moment was the worst moment in my life," he said, weeping as he spoke of the 2005 ordeal.

"I was watching them taking off their clothes, preparing to rape me. I did not know what to do, so I started shouting loudly, 'Please do not do that! I will ask my family to give you whatever you want.' "
